Maybank will discontinue the Maybank Islamic Ikhwan American Express Gold Card-i credit card, effective 31 March 2019. It will no longer issue new cards to customers after this date, but current cardholders will be able to continue using the card until their expiry dates.
The Maybank Islamic Ikhwan American Express Gold Card-i credit card is an entry-level card that offered basic benefits. The card offered 2X TreatsPoints for every RM1 spent on retail transactions, with the exception of utilities, petrol, education, and insurance (1X TreatsPoint each). It is also a free-for-life credit card without any annual fees, and came with a complimentary Touch ‘n Go Zing card.
As an entry-level credit card, it had a low minimum salary requirement of RM30,000 annually (RM2,500 a month). And, as an Islamic credit card, the Maybank Islamic Ikhwan American Express Gold Card-i also offered non-compounding late payment charges if you don’t pay your outstanding bills on time.
As mentioned earlier, Maybank will not offer this card from 1 April 2019 onwards, but current cardholders will be able to continue using this card until the expiry dates indicated on their cards. Interestingly, the Platinum version of this card will not be discontinued, based on its product page on Maybank.
